Andrew Katos, Member for South Barwon today announced the Coalition Government’s funding of $200,000 towards the construction of the Belmont Off Street Car Park.
“The Coalition Government’s understands the needs of small businesses and has delivered on our election commitment for this project.
“The Belmont shopping precinct is experiencing continued growth and extra off street car parking will assist both small businesses and shoppers”, Mr Katos said.
Cr Bruce Harwood, City of Greater Geelong Councillor for the Kardinia Ward welcomed the State Government’s election commitment to contribute funds as part of the $909,170 project with the City of Greater Geelong contributing $504,585 and a further $204,585 from local business contributions.
“The land for the car park has been purchased by Council and planning approval has already been given the green light.
“Council and the State Government have responded to the demands of local shoppers in High Street”, Cr Harwood said.
The City of Greater Geelong will call for tenders in May and construction is expected to commence in August with completion anticipated for October 2012.
“I look forward to the completion of the car park as additional car parking facilities in High Street are much needed as the shopping precinct is the hub of Belmont’s community.” Mr Katos said.
