A Liberal Nationals Government will put $10 million towards a new aquatic and leisure centre in Torquay.

Daniel Andrews and Labor have lost control of population growth. Torquay’s population has grown by around 12% over the last four years but there hasn’t been a similar increase in local services and community infrastructure.

Daniel Andrews’ unplanned and unmanaged population growth is killing the liveability of our communities.

“Torquay’s population is now around 15,000 people and the pool will provide vital community infrastructure for what is a very fit and active community” said Andrew Katos MP.

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will take back control of population growth by decentralising our population and improving community services and infrastructure like a Torquay aquatic and leisure centre.

“The Aquatic Centre will provide valuable learn to swim facilities for school aged children and training facilities for Torquay’s many surf lifesaving volunteers. It will also provide opportunities for recreation, fitness and rehabilitation needs” said Andrew Katos MP.

A Liberal Nationals Government will work with the Surf Coast Shire and the Federal Government to build this $28 million project. That will include securing funding from both the Surf Coast Shire and Federal Government.

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $500,000 in 2019-20 towards planning for the new centre and $9.5 million for construction in 2020-21.

Labor has been in government for 15 of the last 19 years but failed to provide important community infrastructure in Torquay.

Leader of the Opposition Matthew Guy MP said, “Andrew Katos is one of the hardest working local MPs in Victoria. He’s always fighting hard for his community to deliver more services and more infrastructure. Andrew Katos has delivered $10 million towards this project and he will now work with the Federal Government and Surf Coast Shire to get this built”.

Only a Liberal Nationals Government will provide funding for a Torquay aquatic and leisure centre.

“As the local member I have listened to the community and I’ve worked hard to get an actual financial commitment that will see the Torquay Aquatic Centre become a reality” said Andrew Katos MP.
